Texas Hold Em Poker Straddle

In Texas Hold’em poker, some players “straddle”. What does this mean?? Why is it done?? and what is the purpos?

A straddle is a blind bet by the first person to act (left of big blind). The blind bet has to be at least twice the big blind. There is usually no maximum to what the bet can be. All other players must call or raise the straddle in order to see the flop.

Straddling gives the player the right to act last in the first round of betting including the option to reraise, check, or fold if there has been a raise. Generally, its used to increase the size of the pot, and to make players toss away weak hands that they would otherwise play.

Straddling rules vary depending on where you play as there are different variations (i.e. maximum blind bet, who can straddle, position, etc.). At the same time, not all casinos allow straddling.
